John Marzka - Accomplished Football Coach and Student-Athlete Mentor
New Berlin's resident John Marzka has built an impressive career spanning over 30 years in various roles as a football coach, recruitment consultant, life coach, and leadership coach. Throughout his career, John Marzka has worked with several institutions, including Erie Academy and Allegheny College in Pennsylvania, Fordham University in the Bronx, New York, and Milford Academy, Inc., where he currently works.
As a football coach, recruiting coordinator and academic coordinator, John Marzka has focused on the athletic, leadership and academic development of student-athletes. He developed a highly successful recruiting model that annually recruited 20-30% of the institutions' entire male matriculated freshman classes and led to building 12 championship teams at the college level. Coach Marzka has been studying and teaching leadership for over 30 years. This passion led him to create and implement a leadership curriculum to accelerate the leadership and character development among student-athletes.
John Marzka has also achieved notable accomplishments as a head coach and offensive coordinator. He helped lead a post-graduate program to an 8-1 record against a college JV schedule, led the offense to average 500.1 yards per game during the 2022 season, and developed the Offensive MVP into the most successful quarterback in Milford Academy's history. He has also successfully developed 10 offensive players into scholarship student-athletes and helped prepare several more for college athletic, academic, and leadership success.
During his time at Thiel College, Coach Marzka and his staff led, what had been, a struggling program to a 23-9 record over the final three seasons. In 2005, the team achieved an 11-1 record, with a perfect 10-0 regular season, becoming the first undefeated season since 1950. In addition to offensive coordinator and QB coach, Marzka also served as the Tomcats' associate head coach, recruiting coordinator and academic coordinator for 6 years. The program saw tremendous improvements in team GPA, student-athlete retention and 4 year graduation rates during his tenure.
